The iconic Gardens Magic Concert Series will once again fill January summer nights with the sounds of our capital’s vivacious talent, set in the Botanic Gardens ki Paekākā Soundshell. Note new time due to weather!

Featuring FwH teaching a free dance class, Pub Jive at 1pm and The Beat Girls will then provide more entertainment and dance music from 2pm. 

 We will be setting up early on the lawn, so bring a blanket, food and some outdoor dance shoes! 

We have a special dance class at 7pm with guest teachers Jean and John from Brisbane's Breakaways.  They will run the dance class from 7-8pm and after 8pm its social dancing till late-ish. 

Come along and learn some new moves (Swing/RnR based moves that can be used in other dance styles) followed by social dancing until late-ish! We’ll mix the music up based on who’s attending (and what you like to dance etc).

Welcome to The Rugcutters Club, Wellington's only exclusive murder mystery hosts with a difference.  Every so often we park the rug, clear the floor and try our hand at a who-done-it!

If you happen to be reading this you are warmly invited to join a select few (or a cast of not quite hundreds) at our next murder mystery party.  With a multitude of interesting characters straight out of somewhere, we need you to help us solve a mystery.  

OUR THEME: TBC- Murder is afoot at the XXXX! An unexpected event has taken place and we need your help!  You will be assigned a character with details of recommended dress.  The game will start at 7pm, so please ensure you arrive prior to game starting just after 6:30pm.

There are all sorts of fun roles we need to fill - so why not grab some friends, workmates or your sisters' best friends' second cousins' neighbor and give it a go...? We have plenty of characters for this game.

With the success of our first studio quiz night fundraiser (for students attending overseas competitions and dance exchanges), we are doing another! .

We are pleased to announce the continuance of this inaugural 2024 event this year - the premier social dance event with a difference - the SOCK HOP SOCIAL & Battle of The (Wellington) DJ’s.

Over the years we have supported the Wellington Rock’n’Roll dance scene by, attending club dances and events, representing a club at competitions and being on committee.  We want to acknowledge and recognise the local Rock’n’Roll dance scene and the local clubs that keep Rock’n’Roll alive with a special event.  For this year’s event we will be fundraising for the Stroke Foundation of New Zealand.

The Sock Hop is a 1950's dress themed Saturday night dance, so come in your best 1950's attire.  There will be prizes for the best dressed and most authentic 1950's outfits.  Later in the evening we will feature a DJ Battle with our (to date) confirmed local Dance DJs, who will be otherwise taking turns throughout the evening spinning their best Rock’n’Roll dance tracks.  We will separate each DJs R’n’R set with a couple of slow tunes (just like they did at Sock Hops).

Sofi a former FwH student returns to Wellington and we are very excited to have a unique Latin styling and finishing workshop.  Sofi is a professional dancer and has a wealth of dance experience and this will be a highly valued workshop to give you that little extra finish to your Latin dancing.

Sofi’s bio:

 I first started dancing at High School in Manila and was part of the School Dance troupe specialising in Modern and Filipino Folk dancing. On leaving school I joined a trio called the Mega Dance Tracks. The purpose of the group was to compete in TV shows where we won many awards and appeared on many shows. We won Grand Champion twice on a noon time TV show called Pasikatan. This group evolved and grew to a seven member troupe so we could enter other competitions and fiestas around the Manila Province and expand on our successes.

 In 2000 I worked for an agency teaching dance routines to girls who were training to perform in Japan. Later that year I danced for the Cultural Centre of the Philippines in Manila in a long running show called the Amazing Philippine Theatre Show. After 1 year with the company I was asked by the agency to return and continue teaching for them.

 In 2010 I moved to Bulacan Province where I joined an all male group called Campus Avenue as the lead female dancer. This allowed the group to expand on the type of competitions that could be entered. We were very successful travelling around Luzon Island competing and regularly winning competitions.

 In 2014 I joined Feet with Heat studios in Wellington to practice American Latin dancing and was awarded Bronze and Silver Award (with honours) for American Latin dancing. Currently living in Hamilton where I continued my dancing at Dancewell Studio until they closed in August 2023 and with Danceworx Studio.

We invite you to a  fun filled night of Greek music, dancing, fine food and fabulous company.

Introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Council (CID, Conseil International de la Danse), a UNESCO partner NGO, and is celebrated yearly, on April 29.  The main purpose of Dance Day events is to attract the attention of the wider public to the art of dance.  

As such we are pleased to offer a truly international dance programme featuring a variety of different dance classes and dance styles.  No experience, no problem as each introductory dance class is for the complete beginner and all for Gold coin entry (per class).

Movie brief:  Successful middle-aged accountant has a loving wife and a beautiful daughter, but for some reason feels unfulfilled with his life.  One night, while riding his commuter train home, he spies a beautiful woman dancing in a window.  Entranced by her beauty, he tracks the woman to her dance studio and signs up for ballroom dance lessons in hopes of reinvigorating his mundane existence.

 This was a sleeper hit in some Film festivals and was later copied by Hollywood (installing name actors/actresses to cash in!).  The original is way, way better.  Be sure to confirm your movie seat by Thursday as we need minimum numbers to run this event.  .

Welcome to Wellington’s newest dance centre - All About Dance at level 1, 110 Hutt Road, Kaiwharawhara; home of FEET with Heat and LiKe Movement.

The open day is your chance to check out the finished and fully operational dance centre that features 3 dance studios (all with sprung wooden floors) and perhaps try some taster classes (for free!).

On this day we celebrate and remember our mentor, the man who taught us and gave us Lindy Hop, Mr Frankie Manning.

World Lindy Hop Day was established to commemorate dancer and choreographer, Frankie Manning, who many people consider to be one of the main creators of this unique style of dancing. The day is celebrated on May 26 in honor of Frankie Manning's birthday.

Join us for a workshop and a dance - lets get as many swing dancers as possible in one place and celebrate with the rest of the world. 

PROGRAMME:

• Starting with a 1.5 hour teaching class sharing with you some of the awesome moves Frankie taught us when we brought him to Wellington (and New Zealand) back in 2002 (only his second time visiting NZ!)

• and followed by social dancing for a spell (couple of hours or so…)
